Our travel to Munich was in summer. Munich is a big city with a population of about 1.300.000 people, which is lying in the upper Bavaria. We almost had fine weather with a lot of sunshine in the capital of the German Federal State of Bavaria. Some people have problems with the so called Föhn, a warm downwind from the Alps, which are not far from the city. The citizens call their hometown “Weltstadt mit Herz” (global city with a heart).
Of course we visited most of the interesting places. At the center the Marienplatz is to be found, a large open square with the Old and New Town Hall. The tower of the Town Hall contains an ornate clock with moving figures showing traditional scenes. Near to Marienplatz lies the Viktualienmarkt, a big market with all kinds of fruits, vegetables and other Bavarian specialities. Into the other direction leads a shopping mile to the Stachus with the Karlstor. Also near Marienplatz the Peterskirche, the oldest church of the inner city, and the Frauenkirche, the most famous building of the city, can be seen. Not far away there is the famous Hofbräuhaus, where a good Bavarian lunch is offered together with the well known Bavarian beer.
With the underground and buses you can reach every place in Munich, for example the Olympiapark.
