Travel in the Rhein-Main area![]() Whoever loves wine, good, home made food and culture will love the Rhein-Main area, the area that comprises Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Mainz. Those three cities are as different as they could be, although they are all in close proximity. Frankfurt as the biggest city is designed for those who like to have the most modern skyscrapers and romantic old "Fachwerk"-buildings: In Frankfurt they are just a short walk apart. It is from this architectural speciality that Frankfurt gets his uniqueness. Furthermore, a whole street along the river Main is dedicated to museums. There you can find the Museum of Fine Art, the Movie Museum, the Design Museum and many more, one building next to the other. Wiesbaden and the close-by "Rheingau", on the other hand, are beautiful in regard to open, green spaces, vineyards, castles and so called "Straußwirtschaften", small bistro-like restaurants in the garden or patio of a wine-maker's house. You can get excellent, home made wine and snacks for a few euros. Mainz is known as the Gutenberg city. You can still see the Gutenberg bible in the museum. Mainz is a very young city, due to the famous university. People who want to party or sit on the banks of the river Rhein amongst young people having a spontaneous picknick or barbecue should pick this city to visit.
